In Greek, “gastro“means food and ”nomos" means law. However, the translation of the “food law” for gastronomy remains insufficient. In this sense, it is also about learning about different cultures beyond just cooking.

Gastronomy is a field where students are trained in culinary arts and students are trained in many subjects related to food and drink in world culture. In this area, it is aimed to preserve the world culture, have a large kitchen for food and beverages, and the continuity of this cuisine is aimed.

The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts is on its way to becoming one of the most preferred departments of higher education in Turkey and the World. Although it is a department that students show great interest in, it is still coded in the minds of many students and parents as a school that educates only 'chefs'. However, the field of work is a very wide department, and if you are one of those who are thinking of studying in this field, this introduction will make you a person who loves this department more.

The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, which was opened in the 2018-2019 academic year within the Faculty of Tourism, has started its educational activities.

Kastamonu University has some program outputs in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts:

  • Collects data in the fields of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and communicates with colleagues in a foreign language,
  • Have the necessary knowledge and skills in related fields such as gastronomy, design, law and business administration and apply them effectively to the practice of Culinary Arts,
  • Uses technological tools related to Gastronomy and Culinary Arts effectively,
  • It carries the best practices in terms of occupational and food safety, safety and hygiene in food production,
  • Appreciates, evaluates and decides on visual, textual and nutritional data related to food production and presentation.

Thanks to these outputs, it is aimed that graduating students can easily find a job or start a business.

Students who receive education with the curriculum prepared in accordance with the multidisciplinary structure of gastronomy in accordance with the latest trends in the food and beverage sector have a wide field of study in the sector throughout their careers.

In addition to quality technical education, students are provided with the opportunity to do internships to gain practical experience with professional people.

In addition, thanks to the Erasmus+ agreements offered, you can travel to different countries and have the opportunity to experience the cuisine of the country you are traveling to.
