What is IMAT? (International Medical Admissions Test)

IMAT, or International Medical Admissions Test, is a national exam used for admission to English-taught Medicine and Dentistry programs in Italy.
It is organized by the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR) in collaboration with Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing.


🎯 Who Can Take the Exam?

  • International students (non-EU applicants) who wish to study Medicine or Dentistry in English in Italy.
  • Students who have already obtained a high school diploma or are in their final year of secondary education.

📘 IMAT Exam Structure

The IMAT assesses candidates’ skills in logical reasoning, scientific knowledge, and critical thinking.
The test consists of 60 multiple-choice questions, to be completed in 100 minutes.

Each correct answer is worth +1.5 points, each incorrect answer deducts –0.4 points, and unanswered questions receive 0 points.

🕐 When is the IMAT Held?

The IMAT is typically held every year in September.
Applications are submitted between March and June through the official website of the Italian Ministry of Education: the Universitaly portal.
